Let’s face it, if you are starting up your own business, you are doing this to continually grow and achieve great things. Running a business is great fun, it gives you many opportunities and most importantly freedom! You are the boss, you don’t need to report to anybody.

When running a business, there will become a time when things start to slow down and plateau. This happens to every business, so you will not be alone in experiencing this. When it happens, the aim is to push through it in order to grow again, instead of settling and not pushing yourself anymore. Consider investing more in the business

How much money do you put into your business in order to help it grow? Do you take most of the money out for yourself or do you pump it back in for its future? When you are trying to grow, it’s important you reinvest in the business – how much you reinvest depends on your financial situation (you don’t want to put yourself under pressure). Investing in yourself will allow you to develop your workforce, you can improve your offering as well as increase your marketing activity. Try to put a certain percentage of the profits each month back into the business and then measure the output you get from investing. When it comes to the busy season, you could always increase the amount you invest back in.

 

Keep an eye on new markets

The business markets are very active and changing frequently. What once existed doesn’t anymore, or it may have changed or something new may have replaced it. To keep yourself growing, it’s important you keep an eye on any new markets and try to enter them if you can. A new market may be very lucrative and give you access to a whole new customer base you never thought existed. If you are unsure about the markets around you, do some competitor research and see where your competitors are trading. You could also reach out to your current customer base for advice.

 

Develop your offering

When looking into new markets, you may find yourself thinking you could develop your offering in order to enter that market. This is very normal and many companies spend a lot of time each year developing their offering for the future. When running a business it’s important you never aim to settle, instead strive to improve and be the best. Part of being the best will be developing your offering to keep it up-to-date and ensuring you stay relevant, whether it’s something as simple as improving your packaging, or something more complex like developing a brand-new product.

 

Know who your core customers are

If we are to ask you who your core customers are, would you be able to answer? Have a quick think about it. When growing your business, the chances are you will be entering various markets in order to make sales and bring in good revenue. When you are doing this, you may not be paying attention to who your core customers are. Spend some time doing some research into who your core customers are and their interests. Once you have a good idea of who they are, you can then target your product better at them to grow your business. If you are unsure of who your customers are, reach out to them. Ask them questions about what they would like to see from you and why they like to shop with you instead of your competitors. Get some background information about them as this will help you in the long run.
