Is the Bible a Revelation from God or was it created by humanity?

Firstly, there are sixty-six books in the Bible.

Covering the beginning of creation and leading up to the early years of the church.

Thirty-nine of these books make up The Old Testament, speaking to The Law, The Ancient Prophets and Writings.

Furthermore, there are twenty-seven books in the New Testament.

Today’s message will address the question of The Bible’s reliability and whether it is powerful truth or not.

The Bible – Who Wrote The Old Testament?

For the answer we turn to New Testament Scripture.

2 Timothy 3:16; “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.”

Answer.

God.

In truth, it was all God inspired.

From Genesis and the beginning of creation through the Book of Malachi.

We come to see God’s purpose in providing us with His Holy Guide to life.

The Old and The New.

Another key point is that you cannot have one without the other.

In the Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Jesus Christ confirmed the accuracy of Old Testament scriptures through his teachings.

Furthermore, it is the Greatest True Story ever told!

More truth.

How The New Testament Came To Be

To begin with, the early church accepted the New Testament books almost as soon as they were written.

God inspired by writers who were either family and followers of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel writers Matthew and John were two of Jesus’ closest followers.

Additionally, Mark and Luke were companions of the apostles, having access to the apostles’ account of Jesus’ life.

Other writers of The New Testament books had first-hand access to Jesus Christ.

James and Jude were His half-brothers.

Moreover, two of the books in the New Testament are attributed to Peter, one of the 12 apostles.

The Apostle Paul started out as a violent opponent of Christianity and a member of the religious ruling class.

Later, Paul became a true disciple and follower of Jesus, convinced that Jesus rose from the dead.

Scholars have attributed that 13 of the 27 books in the New Testament were written by the Apostle Paul.

Furthermore, these written by Paul were believed to have been written between 50 and 60 A.D., Anno Domini.

The Latin phrase, which stands for The Year Of Our Lord.

More truth.

Archaeological Evidence

Dating back to the 20th century leading up to today, many archaeologists believe The Bible to be an historical document.

The discovery of carved reliefs in Assyria affirmed the biblical account on the siege of Judah which was written in the Book of Isaiah Chapter 36, Verses 1 and 2;

“In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

Then the king of Assyria sent his field commander with a large army from Lachish, to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem.”

More truth.

Another example is the existence of Sargon The Second, an Assyrian Leader, who had captured the northern kingdom of Israel in 722 B.C.

In 1843, a ten ton fifteen-foot-tall statue of a winged bull with a human head attributed to Sargon the 2nd was discovered with an inscription describing his conquest of the northern kingdom of Israel.

Isaiah Chapter 20, Verses 1 through 6;

“In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it— at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz.

He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.”

And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.

Then the Lord said,

“Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush, so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame.

Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame.

In that day, the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria!

How then can we escape?”

Those are just two examples, there are others.

What’s more, the study of archaeology confirms the accuracy of the biblical texts, both the Old and the New Testaments, and new discoveries continue to be made.

Fulfillment of Prophecy

To further prove the Bible’s accuracy and reliability let’s look at prophecy, which, is a statement that foretells an event BEFORE it happens.

All things in The Bible point to the coming of The Messiah and to what He did for every person He ever created.

There are over 3,000 Bible verses speaking of the coming Messiah, The Christ.

Three come to mind.

Daniel Chapter 9, Verse 25;

“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ 

Also,

Deuteronomy Chapter 18, Verse 15;

Moses continued, “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.” 

Thirdly,

Isaiah. Chapter 53, Verses 3 through 5;

“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” 

In other words, Powerful truth.

Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, IS the Son of the Living God as HE states HE is, in the Bible and as others testify HIM to be!

Read about HIS death and resurrection, and you will find detailed accounts in the four gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. 

When compared to the Old Testament Scriptures about the coming Messiah, several of the events and their specific details mentioned in the timeline of HIS death and resurrection were the fulfillment of Prophecy.

Once again we turn to scripture.

Psalm 41:9 in the Old Testament, was written centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ sometime around 1000 BC. 

“Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.”

Prophecy fulfilled in Matthew Chapter 27, Verses 3 through 5;

“Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”

But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!”

And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.” 

Isaiah Chapter 53, Verse 7;

“He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.”

Prophecy fulfilled in Luke Chapter 22, Verse 63 and 64;

“The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.

They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?”  

And they said many other insulting things to him.” 

Again in Luke Chapter 23, Verse 27; 

“And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and wailed for Him” 

Moreover in Luke Chapter 23, Verse 33; “And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him.” 

More truth.

Psalm Chapter 34, Verse 20;

“He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.”

Prophecy fulfilled in John, Chapter 19, Verses 32 through 36;

“So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.

For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.” 

In truth, prophecy revealed all through the Bible, speaks of foretold events, the word inspire comes from the Greek word theopneustos (they-OPE-nustos), meaning God-Breathed.

Fulfillment of Biblical Prophecy speaks to its inspiration as a work of literature given by GOD to HIS Creation.

Moreover, as you read the Bible, know that it is NOT the invention of humanity.

But in fact, it is GOD BREATHED, historically and archaeologically confirmed and prophetically accurate.

• The Bible was written over a span of 1500 years, by 40 writers.
• Unlike other religious writings, the Bible reads as a factual news account of real events, places, people, and dialogue.
• Historians and archaeologists have repeatedly confirmed its authenticity.
