ANDERSON, Ind. (May 10, 2022) — Mockingbird Hill Recovery Center, an addiction recovery center in Indiana, celebrated its first anniversary of operation as one of the first large-scale addiction treatment facilities that accepts Medicaid.

Staffed by professionally trained addictions clinicians and onsite primary medical and behavioral health professionals, Mockingbird Hill is part of Aspire Indiana Health’s “whole health” approach to substance use disorder (SUD).

Through mid-March 2022, nearly 300 men have gone through the treatment program at Mockingbird Hill, with an initial success rate of 60 percent – well above the industry average. This does not include residents who later re-enrolled and successfully completed treatment.

Many of those completing treatment went on to become residents at Progress House, Indiana’s oldest and largest recovery residence.

“When we obtained approval of our proposal, we said a new day was dawning in Madison County and across Indiana,” said Darrell Mitchell, Vice President of Recovery Communities for Aspire. “We’re saving lives and giving hope not only to these men battling substance use disorder, but also their families and the entire community.”

Mockingbird Hill, which is dedicated to addiction recovery for men in Indiana, has beds for up to 88 men and continues to scale up to full capacity. The center faced a particular challenge opening a group living facility at the height of the COVID pandemic but experienced limited cases and no deaths. All new residents are tested for COVID and safety protocols are followed, including masking until Indiana recently suspended its emergency order.

It is certified as both a Federal Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and an Indiana Community Mental Health Center (CMHC). In addition to the latest in addiction treatment methods, medical and behavioral health care, residents receive individual case management, peer counseling and more.

Mockingbird Hill, located on 13 acres of rolling hills and woods, is named after the former Mockingbird Hill Park, a popular concert venue in Anderson from the 1950s through the 1970s. Artists who performed there include Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and many more.

After the concert park closed, the site lay dormant until it was purchased more than a decade ago and reconstructed as a camp for adults with disabilities. Aspire purchased the property in early 2020 after being approved as a recovery center by Anderson city officials. More than $1 million in renovations and upgrades were performed prior to the March 2021 opening.
