Hi there and welcome. It’s Kirsten Jatho here from 4Seeds Consulting, a transformational coach who shifts people from languishing to flourishing. In this video, I want to talk to you about leadership effectiveness.
In various coaching sessions, I have leaders ask me, “Kerstin, am I effective as a leader?” I can’t really answer the question, because what is effective for them, and what is their role? Is it about bringing out a new product? Is it about bringing out a new service? Perhaps creating a new division, doing an acquisition? I don’t know. Those are all things that make a leader effective. But the key thing really is to be clear what their role is. Many leaders, to your surprise, do not know what their exact role is.
If you are sailing on a ship, there is a captain, the navigator, the crew, the engine man. And if you compare that to leadership, you can’t be playing all of those roles at the same time. You have to choose one of those roles and then master them. That’s really when you become effective as a leader.
So, thinking about it, it’s about starting with what are you naturally good at? What do you like to do? What do you want to do? And what can you let go of? So, leadership effectiveness is pretty much an open definition, and it’s your definition. And I guess a sense of heart. What will make you feel that you are effective as a leader? There’s a difference on just seeing it on paper and seeing that this is the job description, but what will really give you that sense of inner effectiveness?
Which roles do you want to play on the ship? Do you actually want to be the captain, or do you want to move to the engine room? Where are your strengths? It’s looking at that and making those necessary changes. This is where our leadership coaching can help you to transform and to grow.
Over to you for sharing your comments and experiences.
