LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST ABBEVILLE COUNTY REGARDING VICIOUS DOG ATTACK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ABBEVILLE, SC, March 5, 2024— In a horrifying incident that shook the Honea Path community, a local woman suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of both of her arms, in an attack by a pack of vicious dogs on Ball Road.  The victim, Kyleen Waltman, was brutally mauled by the dogs on the morning of March 21, 2022, leaving her with life-threatening injuries to her entire body and in critical condition.  Unbeknownst to her at the time, there had been multiple complaints made to Abbeville County Animal Services about the dangerous nature of the dogs, but appropriate measures were not taken to ensure the safety of the community.

In response to this tragic event, a lawsuit was filed by our Abbeville personal injury lawyers on February 15, 2024, in the Court of Common Pleas against Abbeville County, alleging gross negligence in its handling of previous complaints about the aggressive and dangerous behavior of the dogs involved in the attack.  The lawsuit explains that Abbeville County Animal Services had repeated notice that there were vicious dogs that were unrestrained in the area of Ball Road, including one man who was attacked by the dogs from the same property and bitten on his leg on December 25, 2021, just three short months prior to the attack on Kyleen Waltman.  The man sought medical treatment at a hospital and both he and hospital officials reported the attack to Abbeville County Animal Services.  The lawsuit contends that Abbeville County Animal Services failed to do an adequate investigation into the vicious dogs, failed to remove the dogs from the property to protect the public, and then the plaintiff was attacked at the same location three months later.

Waltman’s legal team contends that had Abbeville County Animal Services taken proper action in response to the prior warnings and reports, this devastating attack could have been prevented.  The lawsuit put forward with the help of our Abbeville premises liability lawyers seeks to hold Abbeville County responsible for their failure to protect Waltman and other residents from the foreseeable danger posed by the vicious dogs.

Abbeville catastrophic injury lawyer Tombo Hite said, “This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant oversight and proactive measures to address potential risks posed by dangerous animals within our communities.  Kyleen Waltman and her family are enduring unimaginable pain and suffering as a result of this attack, and they deserve justice.”  T. Matthew Bradley said, “This is one of the most tragic cases that I have ever seen.  Tombo and I will be working tirelessly to advocate for Kyleen and to ensure that no other family has to experience what happened to Kyleen in this heartbreaking case.”
