This award comes from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys, and it’s Selena’s second time receiving the accolade. Additionally, she was selected for the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars list for the 4th year in a row.

These achievements are even more impressive considering Selena’s unique background, but by any standard, receiving even one of these is a noteworthy accomplishment!

The National Academy of Family Law Attorneys was established in 2013 with the primary goal of discovering and recognizing the Top 10 Under 40 family law attorneys in each state for their hard work. To qualify for this award, candidates must be licensed, in good standing with their local bar association, and nominated by either a licensed practicing attorney or one of the NAFLA’s in-house staff researchers.

Similarly, Super Lawyers recognizes the top attorneys across a variety of practice areas and firm sizes, using a patented process of independent research and peer input. To qualify, candidates must be 40 years old or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less.

While these accolades highlight Selena’s exceptional skill and dedication to her clients, her path to becoming a highly regarded attorney is just as remarkable as the honors she’s earned.

Selena’s journey began when she came to the United States as a teenage refugee, fleeing the horrors of the Bosnian war with her family. As she settled into her new home, she couldn’t help but notice the big differences, especially when it came to how the law worked. But one thing didn’t change for her: feeling like she didn’t have a voice. Selena was determined to find one in her new country. This determination fueled her aspiration to pursue a legal career, driven by a desire to advocate for others without a voice, particularly children entangled in the complexities of divorce.

She has now been helping clients through some of the most difficult traumas of their life for over 12 years, and has made a difference in the lives of countless children and families. There are few attorneys as passionate about making a true, meaningful, positive impact as Ms. Besirevic  has shown herself to be (which these awards support!).
