For 60+ Years, Lab Glass Bottles Haven’t Changed…Until Now.

Breaking the mold (not the bottle) in laboratory glassware

As a laboratory staple, glass media bottles have remained unchanged—until now. Foxx Life Sciences, known for their diverse line of advanced fluid handling plastic bottles, faced the realization that certain media, chemicals and reagents must be stored in glass. Therefore, Foxx set out on another quest to solve laboratory problems with innovative products, and it was soon discovered that frequent laboratory glass bottle breakage was not necessarily related to mishandling, but a result of the nature of the work.

In a standard lab environment, ordinary protocol can be a detriment to glass. The hard surfaces required for sterility, several people transferring liquids or chemicals of ranging temperatures, from one place to another, often with wet or slippery gloves, all which magnify the probability of shattered glass incidents. In addition to the expense of bottle replacement is the cost of the now unusable media within, spill clean up and potential contamination of other media in the projected spill zone. Also rendered a loss is the time spent developing the contents. Many labs already face funding dilemmas, so limiting preventable expense occurrences can be key to continued operations.

The result of Foxx Life Sciences’s quest was developing an ever-expanding line of PUREGRIP® glass bottles which incorporate safe, easy to handle VersaCap® bottle cap technology with the high quality versatility of 3.3% borosilicate glass bottles. The line also features additional improvements such as clearly marked graduations and larger writing surfaces.

VersaCap® Bottle Cap Technology

VersaCap® bottle cap technology provides a safe and easy way to handle media and reagent bottles with gloved hands, especially when wet. Designed with, and for end-user laboratory staff, the patented bottle cap has a protruding ridge that provides a comfortable, secure gripping surface for handling and transporting the bottle. The larger cap is simpler to open or close, and has a wide, flat surface for writing and labeling. VersaCap® caps are constructed from certified USP Class VI and animal-free polypropylene resin with a uniform GL45 thread and the highest maximum operating temperature of any polypropylene GL45 cap.

Top Quality Borosilicate Glass

Highly durable, 3.3 low expansion ASTM E-438 Type I Class A borosilicate glass is used for PUREGRIP® glass bottles, flasks and carboys. Bottle sizes come in 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 2 L, 3 L, 5 L, 10 L and 20 L, with a choice of clear or amber glass. PUREGRIP® flasks range from 250 mL to 5 L. Volumetric gradations are applied using advanced calibration instruments—each PUREGRIP® glass product is individually certified for accuracy. Produced using glass blanks with uniform wall thickness, the bottles are chemically inert, mechanically strong and resistant to attack from acids, salt solution and solvents. PUREGRIP® glass products undergo a specialized annealing process to assure they are free of residual stress and resistant to thermal shock up to 142°C. Polypropylene pouring rings eliminates dripping, and each unit features a large enamel writing surface for labeling.

The New PUREGRIP® Glass Media Bottles

The new PUREGRIP® line blends VersaCap® bottle cap technology and highly durable, 3.3 low expansion ASTM E-438 Type I Class A borosilicate glass to improve a user’s ability to safely handle the bottle, and certified volumetric markings that guarantee traceable calibration. Designed to be the safest, most accurate glass laboratory bottles on the market, PUREGRIP® glassware is available at a surprisingly affordable price.

The product line was developed jointly, as part of the collaboration between Foxx Life Sciences and Borosil Glass Works Ltd.  In April of 2018, Foxx Life Sciences and Borosil Glass Works Ltd. of India announced a long-term agreement wherein Foxx Life Sciences will act as the exclusive supplier in North America for Borosil Glass Works premium laboratory glassware. In addition to their agreement, the companies collaborated to develop PUREGRIP® bottles and flasks, combining an innovative plastic bottle cap with premium quality glassware. “Both Foxx and Borosil are poised to achieve success on a global scale,” said Thomas Taylor, CEO of Foxx Life Sciences. “PUREGRIP® is the first of many synergistic products we plan to launch,” Mr. Taylor added.

PUREGRIP® products comply with international quality standards, including EN ISO 4796-
1:2016. Available in case quantities, the bottles, flasks, caps and pouring rings can be sterilized
and autoclaved. All bottles and flasks have a uniform GL45 threaded closure.
