With so many options for diet and weight loss plans, it’s hard to know which ones actually yield results. The hCG diet plan is one that’s especially popular right now. Here’s everything you need to know about the hcG weight loss program so you can decide if it’s right for you!

What is HCG?

HCG stands for the “human chorionic gonadotropic hormone.” The human body creates this hormone in the placenta when a woman is pregnant. It tells your body to produce more progesterone (another hormone) to help the fetus grow and develop. When progesterone and hCG work together, they ensure that a woman and her baby are getting the nutrients they need.

How Does the HCG Diet Work?

The HCG hormone can help with weight loss by making the body believe it is pregnant. HCG is an appetite suppressant, but it also helps you get rid of fat. When you’re consuming less, your body still wants to ensure it is getting all the nutrients it needs. As a result, it uses stored fat as a way of getting calories.

If you want this diet to work, you need to do more than just take hCG as a supplement. You also need to try to maintain a nutritious diet. However, with hCG helping you, the diet doesn’t need to be an overly strict one. You can get hCG in a variety of ways including through injections, nasal sprays, and supplements. No matter how you go about the hCG diet, you should be under the supervision of a doctor. The Chicago Weight Loss & Wellness Clinic can help you start your hCG diet! We believe in its powers and want to make sure you’re staying safe while you diet.

Why Choose the HCG Diet?

Many people love the hCG diet because it specifically targets fat. This is most people’s main problem when it comes to weight loss. HCG allows people to lose fat while but keep muscle. Other diets put you at risk of losing muscle too.

Muscle burns calories—about 30 to 40 calories for every pound. But fat just sits there. Because of this, when you lose muscle, your metabolic rate also goes down. You could end up actually gaining more weight. Thus, hCG for weight loss is a much more sustainable diet in the long-run.

HCG has other benefits. There has been some evidence that the hCG diet can reduce a woman’s risk of breast cancer and improve a man’s prostate health. At this point, no one has discovered major health risks stemming from hCG. However, every person is different. Any time you want to start a new diet, you should talk to a health professional.

Other diet plans can take forever to kick in. But the hCG diet and weight loss plan yields fast results. A lot of people end up losing a pound or more every day, which comes out to 30 pounds in a month. And you can do it without dramatically altering your lifestyle. The time commitment is minimal. You don’t have to spend hours exercising or going to the gym.

With other diets, a lot of people end up feeling tired and lethargic after reducing their calorie intake. But when you’re taking hCG, you’ll still have energy because you’re being fueled by stored fat. Most people also don’t deal with hunger pains.

Why Choose the HCG Diet at Chicago Weight Loss & Wellness Clinic?

All the different hCG forms have their benefits. However, our clinic prefers using hCG nasal sprays or hCG injections for weight loss. We do this by using pharmaceutical-grade hCG and avoiding homeopathic forms of hCG. Over 1,000 patients have already found weight loss success thanks to our hCG weight loss clinic. We help our patients by:

  • Monitoring their progress
  • Keeping them motivated
  • Instructing them about lifestyle changes
  • Providing them with nutritional guidance
  • And so much more!

A key part of successfully completing the hCG diet is being educated about the foods you eat. The Chicago Weight Loss & Wellness Clinic will educate you about how many calories are in the foods you eat. We’ll also instruct you on how to keep track of your daily calorie intake using a food journal. As you start to see results, you’ll become even more motivated to stick to the hCG weight loss program.

What’s the History of the HCG Diet?

A doctor named Albert Simeons created the hCG diet during the mid-1950s. The basis of this diet was that there were three types of fast in the body:

  1. Structural fat, which includes the fat that cushions your feet
  2. Normal fat, which reserves energy in your body
  3. Abnormal fat, which is the extra fat deposits

When most people say they want to lose fat, they’re referring to abnormal fat. HCG works by getting rid of that abnormal fat. It channels the abnormal fat deposits into energy and shrinks them. Because of this, you shouldn’t go on the hCG diet if you just want to lose a few pounds. The hCG diet works best if you want to lose between 15 and 90 pounds.

What Are the Phases of the HCG Diet?

You can complete the hCG diet in four phases. Every phase is monitored by a doctor for your safety. Before you start the hCG weight loss plan, you’ll undergo an EKG and bloodwork. You’ll meet with a diet coach and a doctor before you start taking the medication.

Once you begin the diet, you’ll get a vitamin B12 shot every other week. We’ll also check your vitals to ensure you’re healthy even while on a low-calorie diet. Our clinic will also prescribe you supplements as needed to make up for any nutrient you’re lacking.

Phase 1

The first step to preparing for the HCG diet is to load up on HCG and calories for the first 2 days. There are no restrictions on what you can and can’t eat during this phase, although a well-balanced, nutritious diet will yield the best results. Make a habit of weighing yourself every day starting with Phase 1. If all the food you’re consuming makes you gain weight, this will become your starting weight for the hCG diet.

Phase 2

Phase two of the HCG diet begins on Day 3. You’ll need to dramatically decrease your calorie intake. You should only consume about 500 calories a day at this point. Split this across three or four very small meals. You should keep up eating 500 calories a day for forty days. Make sure you keep updating your food journal.

It’s totally normal to feel hungry during this phase. It takes a few days for your body to adjust to the new metabolic state. Don’t give up! Eventually, you’ll feel better and you’ll see amazing results.

As your hunger decreases, your energy will increase! You’ll also begin to see weight loss results during this phase. The key is consistency. If you cheat on the diet, your body won’t be in a continuous state of change. Consistency helps your body maintain your new fat metabolism and lose weight. Being consistent in your eating habits will also help you continue to eat healthily for the rest of your life!

Phase 3

At this point, you must stop taking HCG. It’s normal for your stomach to have shrunk during the previous phase, making it difficult for you to eat more than 500 calories a day. It’s okay if you continue to eat 500 calories a day for a few more days. Gradually work your way up to eating more calories for the coming weeks. Weighing yourself on a daily basis is especially key at this point.

So how many calories should you be eating? That depends on your basal metabolic rate (BMR). Don’t eat any more than what your body needs at rest. You can figure this out by asking someone at our HCG weight loss clinic in Chicago. You can also use an online calculator such as this one. After you know this number, you should only increase your calorie intake by 100 to 150 calories every week over a six-week period.

For the first two weeks of HCG, eat the same foods you were eating before but steadily increase the amount. Continue weighing yourself in the morning. If you overeat, you’ll know because it will show up on the scale. If that happens, cut back on your calorie intake immediately.

For the next two weeks, you can incorporate small amounts of other foods like starches and sugars. Correct the amounts if necessary based on your weight. Consistency is hard, but in the end, it will be worth it!

In the last two weeks of phase three, you can add healthy fats to your diet. This includes olive oil and omega 3 fatty acids. Make sure you are also exercising.

You may need to complete another round of HCG after this phase if you are not seeing the results you want. However, you should only use HCG forty days at a time. Otherwise, your body will become immune to it. The “resting” period of six weeks helps reset your immunity in a sense. You can keep repeating forty days of HCG followed by six weeks of rest for as long as needed.

Phase 4

If you’ve made it this far in the diet, you have entered the final phase of the HCG diet! At this point, you should have lost a desirable amount of weight. You can start adding even more nutritious foods to your diet. This should include fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and not a lot of meat. You should be eating low-calorie foods that are high in nutrients.

When you’re eating lean protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich foods, you’ll have an easier time maintaining your weight and your cholesterol. A healthy diet should not only be high in nutrient-rich foods but also low in high-calorie foods that lack nutrients. Avoid foods that are high in sugar, sodium, cholesterol, trans fat, and saturated fats. Limit refined carbohydrates. Make a habit of reading nutrition facts on your foods, so you’re educated about what you’re putting into your body.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the side-effects of the hCG diet?

Many diets can come with side-effects. Some of the most common ones for the hCG diet include headaches, depression, and fatigue. The best way you can be safe and avoid these side effects is by talking to your doctor before beginning the diet and only continuing the diet under the supervision of a medical professional.

Can men use hCG?

Yes, many men use the hCG diet because of it’s benefits in addition to the significant weight loss. hCG stimulates a man’s internal production of testosterone, which makes them feel much more energetic during the process. In addition, it helps to improve muscle mass. In most cases, men lose much more weight and a large percentage of their starting weight on this specific diet plan and lose it faster. As always, the best way to start this diet whether you’re a man or woman, is under the supervision of a medical professional.

What is a healthy weight?

If you’re not sure what a healthy weight is, you can use the body mass index (BMI) as a guide. Your weight should be below 30 on the BMI to be considered healthy. You can find BMI calculators online such as the one here. If you’re over 30 on the BMI, you’re considered obese. The higher your BMI, the more at risk you are of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, cancer, and other health issues. When you’re obese, reducing your weight by 5-10% percent can reduce your chance of these kinds of diseases.

How do I incorporate exercise into my hCG diet?

Part of sustaining a healthy life is staying active. When you want to lose weight, you must get rid of more calories than you consume by working out. You should talk to a dietitian about the number of calories you need to consume based on how much you exercise.

The CDC recommends three and a half hours of exercise every week to stay healthy. Usually, you should spread this out to about 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at once. Examples of good exercises are swimming, walking, running, and biking. Experiment and find the type of exercise that’s best for you!

How much hCG do I take while on the diet?

While you’re on the diet, you’ll be taking between 100 and 125 IUs of hCG. This is a low dose, but you should only take it under the supervision of a medical professional.
