CBD Testing: Why Third Party Testing is So Important to Us at Nature’s Arc Organics
Experts expect CBD sales to reach at least $1.1 billion this year and reach $10 billion by 2024.
As people learn about the benefits of the cannabis plant, more businesses are looking for a way to capitalize.
This is great for those of us struggling with chronic pain, anxiety, or other health issues — or is it?
While it’s great that CBD is becoming more popular and utilized, we’re seeing a lack of quality and transparency from many distributors.
Many companies hit the market without offering guaranteed CBD testing. Buyers don’t have a guarantee that what they’re getting is safe and effective.
We recognize the importance of third-party testing to provide top-notch products for those who need results.
Keep reading to find out why it’s so important to us (and why it should be important to you).
Creating the Standard
Less than 30 years ago, cannabis was illegal everywhere.
Now, because of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived CBD is legal in the entire country (even though THC-containing cannabis isn’t).
Due to this rapid change, there’s been a delay from the FDA to take action on regulation. Although they’re working to find a regulation process to ensure safety, it hasn’t happened yet.
For now, there are few FDA regulations on the CBD industry. Companies can’t market it as a supplement and it can’t sell it in food.
Otherwise, there’s little regulation, meaning that the responsibility to grow and offer quality product lands on the business.
We take this responsibility seriously, which is why we take part in third-party testing.
To go the extra mile, our CBD comes from GMP-certified facilities. GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certifies consistent production according to quality standards.
By following industry standards before they become a legal requirement, we are paving the way for safer CBD production.
Offering Unbiased and Neutral Information
We send our CBD in samples to an external lab unaffiliated with our company.
This ensures accurate testing without the possibility of our company altering the results.
News reports have already come out about businesses that tried to change their results so that they can make more money. This happened last year in the THC-cannabis industry, but it could happen with CBD, too.
This is not only unethical but unsafe as well.
Third-party testing facilities analyze the product sent in. The lab uses equipment like HPLC’s (high-performance liquid chromatography) to see what’s in the product.
Then they report, among other things, the presence of different cannabinoids and potency.
This information helps the customer decide what product is right for them.
Customers need to demand that companies do third-party testing with a reputable lab.
Helping Customers Decide What’s Best
By knowing the levels of active ingredients in products, users will know what they’re getting.
Third-party lab reports allow people to make decisions based on knowing the product is what it says it is.
If not for testing, people may think they’re buying CBD at a high dose when in reality there’s not much CBD at all. This leads to the product not working effectively. People then lose out on health benefits and may not believe that these solutions can help their problems.
If our product says it’s full-spectrum, you can trust that you’ll have the benefits of all parts of the plant.
You’ve probably heard of the entourage effect. It simply means that CBD derived from the whole plant (full-spectrum) often works better than isolated CBD. This is because of the added benefits of different cannabinoids aside from CBD and terpenes.
When a company uses third-party testing, you know that the label on the product is what it says it is. You can trust that it’s full-spectrum, isolated, or any other relevant details.
CBD Testing Keeps Things Safe
Ultimately, there are two concerns with CBD products — effectiveness and safety.
We already discussed the effectiveness above. As for safety, there’s a lot of different aspects that could make CBD unsafe, if not for testing.
Cannabis is a bio-accumulator, meaning it draws out heavy metals from the soil into the plant. This is great for soil remediation but bad for the final CBD product.
We discussed in a previous article that it’s widely accepted that CBD stays in your system for about a week after one use, and longer with continued use. This is the same for heavy metals.
If you’re regularly taking CBD with heavy metals in it, it can bio-accumulate in your system and cause negative health problems.
Luckily, you’ll know that you’re buying products that don’t have heavy metals in it because of third-party testing.
Labs also test for harmful toxins produced by mold, pesticides, and chemicals.
Some of the chemicals tested are residual solvents. Solvents, such as propane, butane, and pentane, are chemicals used to extract CBD from cannabis.
If the extraction process isn’t done properly, there will be harmful residual solvents in the final product. Fortunately, labs test for this to keep customers safe.
Rather than introducing harsh chemicals to the mix, our CBD is extracted with CO2. This process uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and low temperatures.
The result? No unnecessary chemicals and higher quality products.
