2 World Elk Calling Champions Bugle to the Top With Slayer Calls’ ArchAngel
The Slayer ArchAngel Bugle Tube led the winners of the men’s and women’s divisions to victory at the 2022 RMEF World Elk Calling Championship.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PARK CITY, Utah, August 1, 2022 — Two world elk calling champions began their reigns with Slayer Calls’ new acrylic ArchAngel bugle tube in hand at RMEF’s annual competition Saturday in Park City, Utah.
Callers in each of the three adult divisions — professional, men’s and women’s — depended on a Slayer call to take them to the final round of the elk calling competition.
Ella Lees, of LaGrande, Oregon, systematically out-bugled each challenger in the women’s division with Slayer’s ArchAngel bugle tube. She took first place in the elk calling competition, up from her second place win in 2021, to become the women’s world elk calling champion in 2022.
Two competitors in the men’s division barked, bugled and chirped their way into the final round of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s World Elk Calling Championship with Slayer calls. Erik Berglund, of Pasco, Washington, won the division to become the men’s world elk calling champion using two Slayer bugle tubes: the newly released ArchAngel and the classic Swagger handle. Kody Garvin, of Elberta, Utah, finished in fourth place using the ArchAngel.
In the highly competitive professional division, Joe McCarthy, Slayer Calls’ product innovation lead and father of 2021 world elk calling champion Cody McCarthy, blew away the seven judges with the ArchAngel — the handle he and his son helped develop when they joined the Slayer team.
“Joe would never admit this, but he’s one of the best elk callers I have heard, and he would give anybody a run for their money on stage,” Slayer Calls CEO Bill Ayer said when McCarthy first joined the company.
A run for their money is exactly what McCarthy, an elk hunter with four decades of experience under his belt, gave his fellow professional competitors. The Caldwell, Idaho, representative for Slayer Calls placed fourth in the finals, producing cow and calf sounds for 30 seconds, bull sounds for 30 seconds, then his own freelance sequence for a final 45 seconds.
McCarthy joined Slayer Calls in May 2022 and has already worked with Ayer and Cody McCarthy to innovate original call designs, including the ArchAngel’s patent-pending Acrylic Sound Amplifying Back Pressure System for better control over vocalizations.
The ArchAngel acrylic elk call is available from Slayer Calls for $75. It’s also available as part of the three-piece Cody McCarthy Signature Series, for elk hunters looking to call in the monster bulls this season, for $89. The Swagger bugle tube is available for $34.95.
