Local Law Firm Partners with Kenosha Chamber and RAMAC for Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Racine, WI, January 19, 2023 – Patton Law Office, SC, a mission-driven, client-centered boutique law firm serving Kenosha and Racine, recently opened a new office in Racine, WI. While still maintaining a satellite office and serving a large client base in Kenosha, Attorney Patton was excited to find a location in Racine that will allow his practice to be more community-oriented. “While we technically opened in July of 2022, we needed a few more months to get our new space ready which included the addition of a mural to transform the front of our building,” said Attorney and Owner David Patton.

“From our understanding, we are the first business to have both the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce and Racine Area Manufacturers and Commerce host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony,“ said Attorney Patton, “It’s an incredible honor to be able to host this landmark event.” The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House will take place on Thursday, January, 26th from 12:00-2:00pm at 1636 Taylor Avenue in Racine. The actual ribbon cutting takes place at 12:30pm. “We invite our neighbors and the community to come meet our team and to learn about the unique mural on our building as well as our initiatives that set us apart from other private law firms,” says Tamara Patton, Director of Operations and Client Support.

With Public Defender roots, Patton Law Office differentiates itself in many ways from other private law firms. One way is by practicing holistic representation and understanding that their clients’ legal affairs affect their lives outside of the courtroom. They work with their people to address the underlying causes and the collateral effects of those legal issues. They have a Client Support Specialist on staff and offer the “Justice is not Just” discount to BIPOC and Queer defendants. “With the unrest in Kenosha and Racine the last few years and the increased “talk” about anti-racism, we felt we needed to go past memes and Twitter posts and put our money where our mouths (and keyboards) are. We offer this discount as our small way of acknowledging the disparities in the Criminal Legal System,” says Attorney Patton, “If we are truly client-centered, we can’t ignore key factors like race, gender, or sexual orientation and how the systems have been created to keep these groups marginalized.”

Another way is Patton Law Office being the only law firm to sponsor and participate in the Kenosha Pride festival and they partner with By Your Side Family Support, a local project based non-profit, to offer The Avery Project. The Avery Project, named after one of the paralegals at Patton Law Office, provides legal and financial assistance to gender non-conforming and transgender individuals to change their name. “For many, this can be the first step to validating a life-long struggle with their authentic selves,” says Avery, “It gives them the ability to have their true selves recognized legally, which is a small comfort that has massive reach.”

Finally the mural, painted by local artist Scott Terry of Mahogany Gallery is a community project to explore the intersection between art and justice. “The mural will feature the poem “Justice’ by Langston Hughes and is the most beautiful and succinct way to encompass what I have learned about the Criminal Legal System since becoming a defense attorney.” He continues, “As soon as I saw this building, I knew we had to do a building-sized mural that would scream that truth as loud as possible.” The well-known poem serves to question what role justice plays in our society and reminds us how unjust the system continues to be for marginalized communities. In the artist, Scott Terry’s own words regarding this project, “I’m excited to collaborate with Patton Law firm to execute the artistic vision that they have for this dynamic mural project. They are passionate about art and how art has been a voice for the voiceless and a means to bring communities together around issues of social justice and equity.”
