They always add so much joy to your life and it’s nice to be able to enjoy as much time with your dog as you can. However, you may find that you just don’t know how to do right by your dog. This isn’t always because you don’t know how to treat them well – but quite the opposite! You know that you want to be able to give them the best possible life and so you’d like to be sure that you’re doing all that you can. But what does that take?
Is it as simple as treating them like your dog, feeding them and walking them? Or is there more to it than that? It can be difficult to work it out when you’re a new dog owner or you’ve just never thought about it before. And if you find that you are thinking about getting a dog, you may be looking at the idea of this more seriously. So let’s take a look at what you can do.
Raise Them Right
To start with, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re raising them correctly. Now, everyone will have their opinion on how is the best way to do this – and that’s okay. But you’re going to want to make sure that they are well-trained and that they behave well too. This is something that you could do yourself if you have the patience and the knowledge. But also, you would work with a dog training company to help you too. As long as you know that you’re teaching them commands for their own safety and the comfort of your lifestyle, you’re doing well by them.
Feed Them Well
You will also want to make sure that you’re feeding them well. And this doesn’t just mean feeding them in general and the right amount. But feeding them the best possible food and meals for their breed and to keep them healthy.
Include Them In Your Life
You’ll also want to try and make sure that they are included in your life as much as possible. If you’re going on vacation, then why not take them with you? Whenever you’re going out for the day, take them too. Sure, this can seem like it’s hard to do when you have other things going on. But you love your dog and it’s always nice to make sure that you are including them in your life as much as possible. It’s the best thing to do for them.
Treat Them As Part Of The Family
As a step on from that, you’ll also want to make sure that you’re treating them as part of the family too. If you don’t let them in certain rooms of the house or on the couch or whatever, they may feel left out. So make sure that you embrace them as part of the family.
Give Them Exercise
From here, you’re then going to want to make sure that you’re thinking about the exercise that your dog needs. Of course, you know what your dog needs daily exercise, but you’re going to want to make sure that you tailor it exactly to their own needs. Not only will there be a set guideline by breed, but you may find that your dog themselves will have their own needs – and they will let you know. Taking them out twice a day and ensuring that they are able to get out all of their energy is so important and is the best thing for them too.
Care For Their Health
You’ll also want to stay on top of their health. Regular grooming will keep their coat looking good. Make sure they see the veterinary on time and that they are getting regular check ups to keep them healthy as well.
Show Them Love
Finally, you’re then going to want to make sure that you’re showing them love. This can be something that will feel like you’re doing naturally – but does your dog know that? It’s often the case that you will try to show them love, but it’s a good idea to speak their language too. Your body language, tone of voice, and the way that you look at them matters. Of course, cuddles and walks and generally being loving with them will come across correctly too. Just do what you know works and feels most natural to your own relationship together.
